Sri Lankan Dancing Culture

 

Sri Lanka is a culturally rich country.  Dance plays a leading role in our country.  Dance is a gift from God.  Being able to please another person through art is a big part of being a dancer.

When we talk about the dance culture of Sri Lanka, it has a long history.  From the state level beginning with King Vijaya, we have developed the art of dance in various ways.  The Shanti Karma system that existed in the past through various eras has come to the stage today.

There are three main types of Sri Lankan dance art.  Namely, the Kandyan dance tradition, the low country dance tradition and the Sabaragamuwa dance tradition.  These dance traditions are characteristic of all three.The Kandyan dance tradition is based in Kandy, the low country dance tradition is spread in the Galle and Matara areas and the Sabaragamuwa dance tradition is spread in the Ratnapura area.  This shows us that the art of dance is ubiquitous in Sri Lanka.

The Perahera Festival is one of the most popular dance and cultural events in our country.  Kandy Dalada Perahera, Sabaragamu Saman Devala Perahera etc. We can see the Perahera Festival in various ways.Foreigners also come to Sri Lanka especially to watch the procession.

Today, our dance art, which has developed in various ways, is gaining popularity even in foreign countries.  The art of dance has greatly improved, especially with the University of the Visual and Performing arts.Our sole aim as dancers is to perpetuate the Sri Lankan dance art. We have always loved our dance art.

A National Hero

 

There are so many characters who we know as national heroes. Among them We like "Bapu" very much as he has been the father for the national before he becomes hero.  

                         Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in 2nd  October 1869 at porabandar Village in India, Little Gandhi was not much studious. After schooling at Rajkot he went to England to study law, and became a barrister.

                         

                        When he went to South Africa to practice law, he was thoroughly moved by the way Blacks were  treated by Whites. There he determined to weed out this colour - dis- crimination as he only believes everyone was equal. When returns to India he worked hard for the freedom of the country.  He taught us that killing and fighting the most stupid thing man can do. He organized Many "Sathyagraha" movements. As a result this grad person was jailed several times. Some how or other he won the battle.  He could free his country from British. He taught us true meaning of "Ahinsa" (Non Violence) His love for Bharath Desh was genuine. His simple living was a good example for the people to wear only locally turned out clothes. He set positive examples to the whole world. His great life was simple, and his simplicity was great. Really we respect him as a national hero. Gandhi entranced the people the mental comfort he gained through eating little, abstaining from flesh, liquor an tobacco. 

 

                        With all these good qualities even after his death, he lives in my memory forever as a real National Hero.

  

Value of Newspapers

 

                                              Newspapers have something for everybody. In this modern world we can not imagine a world without news papers at our door step every morning. The headlines in huge capital letters catch the eye as soon as we unfold it. Sometime we do not find the time to go through the whole article but capitations or headlines give the gist of the news item.

                                                                                                                                                    

Newspaper is just like a dining table,

which is full of so many delicious dishes. Some are match appealing where as some are not. Normally we taste what we like only. 

 

There are also special articles for women and young children, notices, stories foreign news, sports news and advertisement of employment opportunities too. Therefore they  are enjoyed by the young and the old a like. There is something for each family member. 

   

📖️My favorite novel 📖️

 We all like to tell novels.  There is also our favorite novel among the stories we read. My favorite novel is "Gamperaliya".📖️Gamperaliya is not just a novel name.  It was indeed a revolution in Sinhala literature.

 📖️The Sinhala novel which was a fictional art was transformed into a realistic art after the novel Gamperaliya by Martin Wickramasinghe Surin.

 📖️Considered to be the first realistic Sinhala novel, it was first published in 1944 and this year marks the 75th anniversary of the novel.

 📖️Accordingly, this year marks the 75th anniversary not only of Gamperaliya but also of the realist Sinhala novels.

The social, political and cultural aspects of the time are told in this novel as a love story.  I feel sorry for Nan Piyal.  Also, angry about Nanda.I think you all have read Gamperaliya.  So, if you have not read it yet, enjoy reading Gamperaliya ❤️🥰📖️🥰❤️

👩‍❤‍👩Mother👩‍❤‍👩

 My mother is the strongest woman I have ever seen in the world. My mother is very beautiful.  Our mother is the most precious resource in the world for all of us.  Because of her we see the world today, and we live.  I especially want to say that today I am a graduate student because of the strength of my mother.

Mother's name is Wijethala Balasuriya.  She was born in Matale.  My mother is forty-four years old.  She has a spot on her forehead. She is of medium height. She has fair skin.

Every day our family was lovingly cared for by my mother.  Our father is also a source of strength for his work. Our mother is a woman who is never lazy.  I love my mother very much. I love my mother as much as she cared for us. 🥰🙏

My unforgettable trip

It was April 29th.  My sister and I. My boyfriend and his sister joined me on this trip. We were planning to go around Badulla.  But along the way we changed our destination.  From the town of Meegahakiula.  We decided to go to Madolsima.  Madolsima was a by road from Meegahakiula town.  We never thought the journey would be difficult as it was about 23km.  Oh my God, after a while we realized that this road was not suitable for us.  I was so scared because the two sisters were with us too.  Because I did not tell my mother that we were going to Madolsima.  We went in a car.  It's not a good road to go.  My boyfriend drove the car very carefully.

The area is beautiful.  There were also small waterfalls.  We parked the car there and took photos. 

In the meantime, my sister slipped and fell.  Her clothes were wet too.  It was only when we got her into the car that I saw the leeches hanging from my legs.  I'm very scared of leeches.  I screamed and in the meantime this boyfriend pushed them away.  The fear grew in my heart.  Somehow we got out of that by-pass and we came to a place called Exit.

Then found a walk through the tea estates.  We had been here for over two hours.  I had been to Madolsima before but could not remember the exact route.  We heard the workers working on the tea estates on both sides of the road and proceeded.  After a long distance we reached the place where Madolsima is the little doomsday.  We parked the car on the side of the road and then there was a small road.  Its hard to drive.

Unfortunately for us, there were a lot of men there so we could not reach the end of the world. It is very sad.

We were able to reach Badulla at around 2 pm so we decided to go to nine arch.  Then we went to see the nine arch.  It's a beautiful place.  A cold place surrounded by pine trees.  A long bridge with nine arches.  We took photos.  Was pleased.

After lunch we left for home without going anywhere.  Came home around 5pm.  The four of us will never forget that day.  A scary and happy day.  Despite the sadness of not being able to see the end of the world, we came home safe and sound that day.  But we are going to see Madolsima again one day !!!

🥰Our dream came true.👩‍🎓

The dream of every child who is good at dancing is to become a good dancer in the future. We will now experience the true triumph of our dance life that began with foot drills. 😍👩‍🎓🙋 That is, we are students of the University of the visual & Performing Arts.

For six months now we have been living as children of an aesthetic mother.  The life we ​​all lived together was a very happy one🥰.  Although we have to meet online due to the corona epidemic, but the bond between the scholars is huge.

We all met different friends.👨‍❤‍👨👩‍❤‍👩👭👬👫🤼  We supported Group assignment 🤩🤩and took the grief of others into our own hands. Everyone was happy for happiness.  The assignment was a bit hectic 🥵🥵but our friends led a very loving life.😍😍  We are looking forward to the day when the corona virus will soon be gone and we will all work together at the university.🙏🙏Love you all 💚💚🥰🥰😘😘

🐠🐠🐟🐟🐬My little pets 🐠🐠🐡️🐬

 I have a lot of cute little pets.🐠🐠🐠They are ornamental fish.  They are so beautiful and so innocent.  I'm so excited to see them.  They are always playing swimming in the fish tank.My father built this fish tank.🐬🐬🐬 I've been working on it for over a year now.  Very small when I brought my fry.  But it's bigger now because it's a protein diet.

Fish from different species such as carp, goldfish and catfish.  They come in a variety of colors, including dark orange, black, and white.Different types of fungal diseases cause them, I feel very sad at that time.😥😥.  We put antifungals in the tank.  Ornamental fish are very easy to care for.  It makes me happy to see them eating and jumping up and down.

Also, it is difficult for them to survive without oxygen.  Kill fast.  Sad to say, 8 of my baby fish died recently when the oxygen machine broke down😭😭😭😭.  I cried a lot that day.  I hope it doesn't happen again

I love my fish so much.💚🐠💚  I also suggest you build a fish tank.  When we see them, we feel relief😘🐬🐠😍🌼😊

🙏Mahiyangana rajamaha wiharaya 🙏

 

The Mahiyangana Raja Maha Temple occupies a very important place in the history of Buddhism in the island, as it is the location of the Buddha’s first visit to Sri Lanka nine months after attaining enlightenment. This significant event occurred on a Duruthu Full Moon Poya day in January. The Mahiyagana Vihara is also one of 16 Solomasthana (the sacred places in Sri Lanka).   

                                                                  

Mahiyangana (Bintenna in Sinhalese) is located to the East of the central hills of the island. It is within easy access of many major towns such as Badulla, Kandy, Ampara, Monaragala and Kandy. As a matter of interest, it is along the road from Kandy to Padiyathalawa that you will come across the famous 18 hairpin bends.

Historic Events

When the lord Buddha visited Sri Lanka for the first time it was nine months after his enlightenment. It is said that he set forth on this journey when he foresaw that Buddhism would be kept alive in Sri Lanka for over 5,000 years. Thus it was his intention to ward off any evil forces and keep the way clear for the teachings of Buddhism to be spread.
At the time, as stated in the Mahavamsa, the inhabitants were the Yakkas – demon worshippers and Nagas – snake worshippers. When the Buddha arrived at Mahiyangana the Yakkas were gathered in a Garden called Mahanaga. When the Buddha appeared they were alarmed and inquired as to the reason for this intrusion. He replied by performing a miracle before their eyes – seated cross-legged in the air. Bewildered, they begged him to spare their lives, then asked that they listen to his sermon in return. Seated on the place where the Mahiyangana Chaithya stands now, he preached to the Yakkas who were spiritually elevated on hearing his teachings, and some of them attained Sovan, Anagami, Sakadagami and ArhatThereafter Saman, a Yakka chief who attained Sovan and is now considered a deity (Saman Deviyo), asked the Buddha for a relic they could pay homage to after he left them to return to his homeland. The Enlightened One gave him some of his hair which Saman enshrined in a little Stupa. Standing at a height of 10 feet (3m) this was the very first Stupa to be constructed in the island.

Another relic was added to this one in the Stupa and this was the Buddha’s left clavicle bone,  recovered from his funeral pyre after he attained Parinirvana, and brought here by an Arahant named Sarabhu. The height of the Stupa was also increased to 18 feet or 5.5m in order to make the structure more impressive.Since then the Stupa has been renovated and extended by many rulers, including Dutthagamini (who raised the height of the Stupa to 120 feet), Sena II, Voharika Tissa, Vijayabahu I and also  Kirthi Sri Rajasinha. A new pinnacle was also added as part of the recent reconstruction work done during the period 1953 – 1980. In fact, a crystal-cut gemstone now adorns the pinnacle which was a gift from Myanmar (Burma) and weighs 14.5kg (32lbs).

                               I'm Lakshani Kumudika Blawickrama. My friends call me lakshani..... I'm from Mahiyanganaya. I was born on the 5th of May in 1998. Which means  I'm 23 years old now.  There are six of my family members. Mother, Father, Sister, Aunty & Grand mother. My Mother is house wife  & my father was retired army hero. I have a sister. She is my younger sister. 

                              So I went to B/ Mahi/ Bandaranataka central collage. I became my school head prefect  in 2016. I did Arts for my advanced Level studies. My chosen subjects are Dance, Sinhala & Political science. Now I'm undergraduate of  University of the Visual & Preforming Art. I'm in 1st year of study. I  love my university life & I take my studies very seriously.👩‍🎓👩‍🎓

                               I'm a sensitive girl & I think a lot about everything🥵🥵. I know  It's a Bad habit but there are times when it help me. However I learn from these experiences and I try to be a smarte persoInne . I  have no such  special hobbies. But I like to look at ornamental fish. I have a nice fish tank.                                                                                                                 I have a big drama about my future. It's the first step I have won. 🌼After university education I want to be a good talented dancing teacher. I enjoy teching children dance  It is a desire that comes from my heart.
